Q.Is this jewelry safe for sensitive ears?
A.Most of the catalog is 316L surgical steel, G23 titanium, tungsten carbide or 14K gold filled brass. 316L keeps its trace nickel locked inside the alloy, and most nickel-sensitive people wear it with no reaction. If even surgical steel bothers you, pick the titanium pieces; G23 is the implant-grade alloy.
Q.What do 22G, 20G and 16G mean?
A.Gauge measures post thickness, and the scale runs backwards: 22G is roughly 0.6 mm, 20G roughly 0.8 mm, 16G roughly 1.2 mm. US nose piercings commonly take 20G or 18G, ear lobes 20G, septums 16G. Match whatever your piercer used: a thinner post can migrate, a thicker one will not fit.
Q.How does a flat back earring open?
A.The front unscrews from the post while the flat disc rests against the back of the ear. Push the post through from behind, thread the front on from the outside. It feels fiddly for the first two days, then becomes faster than a butterfly back.
Q.How long does the gold color last?
A.Ion-plated steel keeps its color through months of daily wear when perfume, chlorine and gym sweat stay off it. 14K gold filled pieces carry a bonded gold layer measured in microns and last for years. Bare steel, titanium and tungsten have nothing to wear off.
Q.Can I sleep or shower in these?
A.Sleeping is what flat backs are for. Showers: plain water does no harm to steel or titanium, but soap film dulls CZ stones and hot tubs shorten plating life. Towel-dry the pieces you never take out.
